“Milestone Reflects Commitment to Innovation and Excellence in Cardiovascular Care”
Terrebonne General Health System (Terrebonne General) and Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) proudly announce the successful completion of its 1,000th Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of cardiovascular care for the region.
This achievement places Terrebonne General and CIS among an elite group of medical centers nationwide that have reached this volume, reinforcing their position as leaders in minimally invasive heart procedures. The TAVR program, launched in 2012, offers patients with severe aortic stenosis a life-saving, less invasive alternative to open-heart surgery, with quicker recovery times and excellent outcomes.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone, which reflects the skill, dedication, and teamwork of our cardiac specialists, nurses, and support staff,” said Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO of Terrebonne General Health System. “More importantly, it represents 1,000 lives impacted by advanced, compassionate care delivered right here at home.”
“Performing our 1,000th TAVR procedure is more than just a number - it represents lives saved, lives changed, and innovation in action,” said Ryan Hebert, CEO of Cardiovascular Institute of the South. “It reflects our continued commitment to work towards our mission, to provide our patients the highest quality cardiovascular care available.”
It has been an honor to participate in and watch the evolution of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) over the past 13 years,” said Dr. Peter Fail, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) in Houma and Director of the Structural Heart Program at CIS. “From the early trials when we all struggled to figure it out, through commercialization, to where we are today.”
The TAVR team includes a multidisciplinary group of interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and heart care professionals who have collaborated to ensure safe, effective treatment for patients, many of whom were previously considered too high-risk for traditional surgery.
As Terrebonne General and CIS continue to invest in state-of-the-art technology and innovative treatment options, they remain committed to improving cardiovascular health outcomes throughout the Bayou Region and beyond.
