Terrebonne General Health System Named the Large Business of the Year by the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce

Houma, LA, February 2023 Terrebonne General Health System was named the Large Business of the Year by the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce at the 93rd annual banquet. The large business of the year award is given to a business with more than 25 full-time employees and recognizes their community involvement, chamber involvement, and economic value to the community.

Terrebonne General takes pride in being the largest community-based health system in southeast Louisiana. Believing in service excellence, being a good community partner, engaging patients, and providing innovative healthcare as well as wellness solutions for all is at the heart of who they are.

"We are humbled and honored to be chosen as the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year," said Phyllis Peoples, President and CEO. "For nearly 70 years, we have been providing the highest quality healthcare for our community, and it's because of the dedication and commitment of our amazing physicians and staff to making a difference each day. Being recognized by our peers and the people we serve in our community makes the award all the more special," she added.

Terrebonne General employs over 1,400 employees from Terrebonne Parish and the surrounding area, has been a dedicated chamber member for over three decades and has supported the Chamber through sponsorships and volunteerism by serving on the Chamber’s Board of Directors and several committees.

Terrebonne General has been honored with many prestigious awards and accolades for quality, safety, and patient experience on the state, national, and international levels.

Each year, the organization utilized funds in sponsorship dollars to local nonprofits, schools, sports facilities, and community organizations with a shared interest in improving our community. In addition to sponsorships, the health system and its employees donate countless hours of their time through many sponsored community-based programs. Terrebonne General has worked with many organizations to improve youth, education, healthy living, parish beautification, organ donation, domestic violence, coastal preservation, and combatting cancer.

Terrebonne General with the Terrebonne Parish Downtown Development Corporation created Market at the Marina, an outdoor farmers market featuring local goods and produce, which attracts over large crowds of people each month, and invested in allied health programs at Nicholls State University, Fletcher Technical Community College, and local public and private high schools to ensure the future of healthcare and to solidify workforce development in our community.

As advocates for health education, Terrebonne General implemented the Sudden Impact program to educate students in our region on the dangers of distracted driving and the Well & Wise program, a free wellness program geared towards our 60+ population to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
