Feeling Like Me Again: Claudette's Story

Feeling Like Me Again: Claudette's Story

For over 35 years, Claudette Dungan and her husband owned and operated a small family restaurant named “The Lunch Basket” in downtown Houma. In 2017, they made the difficult decision to retire. Age was catching up with them; her husband had been diagnosed with cancer, and she was dealing with her own health challenges. Claudette had been managing Type 2 diabetes, venous hypertension, and atrial fibrillation, all conditions eventually leading to hard-to-heal wounds that made daily life a struggle. These complications led to a venous ulcer, which ultimately brought her to the Terrebonne General Health System Wound & Hyperbaric Clinic.

Initially, it was Claudette’s husband who received wound care from the clinic. From their very first visit, she knew they had found the right place. “The entire team of nurses, doctors, and staff treated us like family,” Claudette explained. “They were respectful and compassionate, always taking the time to explain every step of the care process with them.” That level of communication and kindness made all the difference in managing her chronic wound.

Claudette speaks highly of the clinic, saying their skills and care were unmatched. Although dealing with a wound was never something she would have chosen, she is grateful that the journey led her to such a dedicated team. After spending decades loving her community, Claudette is now happy to receive the same in return.

After being healed, Claudette feels more like herself again. Her life has become easier and more joyful! She now enjoys time with her four children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, with a seventh on the way. Claudette’s back to sharing stories, savoring moments with family, and even cooking again.
