Milton's Wound Care Story

Milton Pitre, Jr., had inner ear cancer in 2011 and underwent radiation to treat it. Eight years later, he discovered a hard nodule in his neck, which was treated topically for two years.

Eventually, a biopsy was done, followed by surgery to remove the nodule, which was found to be caused by the radiation. A skin graft was placed, but his wound would not heal due to soft tissue radionecrosis, or tissue that has been severely damaged from radiation.

He was referred to the Terrebonne General Health System Wound & Hyperbaric Clinic. His first visit was in March 2026, where his wound was treated. He also began hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy to help the areas affected by radiation grow new blood vessels and heal.

Milton said that he was nervous for his first HBO2 treatment because the HBO2 chamber looked scary, but Liz, the HBO2 Technician, was very knowledgeable, eased his mind, and answered all his questions.

Milton has since been discharged. Now that he is healed, he is so appreciative to the entire staff. He said the team was amazing, and he would recommend anyone with a wound go to this clinic for wound care or HBO2 therapy.
