Not only does Terrebonne General give standard emergency treatments, but we have a Fast Track Area within our emergency department to treat patients with less critical health conditions.

Emergency Treatment

Our Level III Emergency Department serves about 50,000 patients every year. Staffed round-the-clock by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses, our ER offers first-line treatment for sudden illness or injuries.

There are many factors at play in treating emergency cases: that's why we've developed a triage system to help us see all patients as quickly as possible, and the most serious cases are seen first.

Question: Why are some patients seen before others that were there before them?

Answer: No two emergency cases are the same. It is our duty to see the most serious cases first, which is why we have a triage system.

Question: What is triage?

Answer: Triage is a method of determining the seriousness of each case that comes into the Emergency Department. Our triage nurse sees each patient and assesses their need to see a doctor. Patients are then put in order as bed space becomes available.

Question: Is there anything I should do before I come into the emergency department?

Answer: If time and circumstances allow, call your family physician in advance. If you don’t have time, you will likely be seen by one of our emergency physicians. It's important to bring information with you, including the medications you take, your medical history, and copies of any recent X-rays and lab work you have.

Insurance Policy

Terrebonne General provides exceptional care for its patients. To help provide quicker, quality service, we encourage patients to seek care at the right place. Our emergency department is designed to provide care for unexpected medical emergencies. If your case is considered a non-emergency, financial arrangements will be discussed. In the absence of a verifiable insurance card, a deposit may be required. If your insurance is later verified, your deposit will be returned or applied to any outstanding debts owed to Terrebonne General. If you are experiencing a dire medical emergency that requires urgent transportation to the hospital, please call 9-1-1 for an ambulance. For minor health ailments or common illnesses, please seek other treatment options.
